When you ask what is the difference between grounding and earthing then most of the answer you will get that it is same. However this is not the case. There is difference between grounding and earthing which are described below:

  1. Grounding means connecting the live wire to the ground i.e. connecting the wire which carries current in the normal condition while earthing means connecting the dead wire to the earth i.e. connecting the wire which does not carries current under normal condition. In other words we can say that earthing is an alternate low resistance path for current.
  2. Grounding is done in order to provide the return path for the current to flow like all electrical/electronic circuits need a reference potential (zero volts) which is called ground in order to make possible the current flow from generator to load while earthing is done in order to protect from getting shocked when any fault occurs in the system.

What is difference between among of three
    Earthing, grounding, & neutral ????

    • Grounding term is used in dc circuit and neutral tem is used in ac circuit….conceptually both are same…both provide the direction for the flow of current….earthing is done for the safety and protection as describes in the article… đŸ™‚
